Metal: Factors Affecting Price

Met-Seam Ltd, like all other metal trading companies, buys and sets selling prices for metal within a volatile metals market which can see the cost of metals such as copper, zinc, aluminium and stainless steel fluctuate up and down many times in a day.

Metal prices are determined by a number of outside influences which are beyond our control.

We purchase metal from around Europe and beyond, metal is sold in weight, typically in tonnes and we resell our metal in weight, typically in kilograms (kg)

The rate of Sterling against other currencies, most typically the Euro and US Dollar will have an influence on our buying price as will the rate of the LME (London Metal Exchange).

For our UK sales we typically buy in, Tonnes and Euros, and sell in, KGs and Sterling, and in accordance to the rate of the LME at the very moment of the purchase.

To complicate things even more when we sell our fabrication systems such as MSPro we buy, in Tonnes and Euro and sell in m² and Sterling.

Met-Seam like the rest of the world have no idea if the currency rate or the LME rate will go up or down, of course we watch them and always try to buy at the best possible prices.

When these rates move our rates move and this is the primary reason why when a quotation is issued by Met-Seam Ltd it is only held for 24 hours.

Met-Seam Ltd makes every effort, through constant monitoring of the market, to stabilise our prices to customers by maintaining selling rates that fluctuate much less in relation to the many changes experienced in the trading markets. We advise customers to book their metal requirements early for their projects and to place a deposit with us, which will secure the rate quoted and we will hold their stock for an agreed period, at that rate.
